ANDbreathe Bag - What you need to know!
The ANDbreathe Bag is a lined cylinder with a drawstring closure at the top. It is a straightforward project; a practical bag with a simple form and a few interesting details making it both beautiful and, of course, a fun sew!
Pockets? The pattern includes an optional zipped patch pocket on the side - perfect to store any of those little bits 'n' pieces you might need to bring with you to class: a travel card, keys, phone, a few coins...
Size? As mats come in different lengths, widths and thicknesses, two bag width options have been provided; narrow and wide. The pattern can be lengthened easily and instructions on how to do so are included.
Closures? The main bag is closed with a drawstring and a snap fixing can be added for some extra security.
Pockets? You can add an external zipped patch pocket to the main panel.
Straps? The ANDbreathe Bag has a long shoulder / crossbody strap, and you have the choice of two different ways to make it, one using a pair of d-rings or rectangular rings, the other with a rectangular ring and an adjustable slider.
ANDbreathe Beginnings…
The ANDbreathe Bag was inspired by my own attempts to commit to a regular Pilates practice and my experience of enjoying using my me-made mat bag each week as I head to class.
I used to do lots of yoga, having hurt my back jumping off a cliff into the sea… twice… (seriously, I should have known better) but I fell out of it with the arrival of a young family.
When Mary - you’ll find her here on instagram - started a garden Pilates class as we were coming out of COVID lockdown I signed up immediately! A year later I was still going and to celebrate this small achievement I made myself a Pilates mat bag…
I have been using it for 4 years now and I love taking it out each week to bring down to class. I quilted the outer fabric - a gorgeous See You At Six cotton twill canvas and used a coordinating lightweight canvas for the lining, drawstring casing and piping highlights.
I’ve adapted a few things with the ANDbreathe Bag pattern - learning from my long term road testing!
The zipped pocket I had on the inside was pretty inaccessible so that moved to the outside. The drawstring panel has a slightly different construction, allowing it to open it out fully, and the top of the strap sits in the top seam, so that the balance of the bag is better.
Gorgeous monochrome ANDbreathe Bag. Narrow size with the simple adjustable strap and zipped patch pocket. Made by Marja - @m3niemi - during testing.
