SLOUCHYzipper Add On - FREE PDF Sewing Tutorial

This SLOUCHYzipper Add On mini-tutorial is published as part of the SLOUCHYshopper Sewalong, August 2024 and covers how to add a zipped closure to the main compartment of the SLOUCHYshopper pattern.

Along with the original SLOUCHYshopper pattern (available here) and associated fabric and notions, you will also need the following extras:

Pattern Pieces: Zip Attachment Strips (J): 2x Outer Fabric and 2x Lining Fabric, Zipper Tab (K): 1x Outer Fabric

Zipper: You will need either a No. 5 fixed length, closed ended zipper, or a continuous zipper tape and zipper pull in the following minimum lengths:

Fixed length, closed ended zipper: Medium: 45cm (18"), Large: 55cm (22") or

Continuous zipper: Medium: 47cm (19"), Large: 57cm (23")

The SLOUCHYshopper is a "Beginner" level pattern. This zipper add brings a little more complexity but most confident beginners should be able to tackle it!

Each step is fully illustrated and the upcoming SLOUCHYsewalong will be there to provide even greater support!

OUTER FABRIC:

Most mid-heavy weight woven fabrics are suitable such as oilskin/waxed canvas, mid - weight canvas, denim.

LINING:

Medium-lightweight cotton, quilting cotton, linen, mid-light weight canvas.

The above fabrics are suggested as guidance. You can probably successfully make a SLOUCHYshopper, and this Zipper add on, out of any fabric, so have fun experimenting!
